The Warkworth 100 Mile Diet Challenge

In September of 2008, the people of Warkworth were challenged to eat one meal a week of local produce for three months. The challenge was a way of getting people to think about the impact their decisions about food could have on the environment and the local economy. People had a chance to sign up at the Warkworth Fall Fair and over 100 people took the challenge. That is approximately one out of every 7 people accepted the challenge.

This year our goal with the challenge is to further promote as many of our local food producers and resources as possible by reaching out to as many fair visitors as possible. The theme is connection - connecting area residents to local food producers.

100-Mile-Diet

At the booth this year, we are looking to feature local food producers. Featured producers are being asked to provide taste samples or preparation and/or cooking demonstrations and will change hourly throughout the weekend.

Again this year, we are seeking contributions to our 100 Mile Diet Challenge prize packages. Prize packages will be given to challenge participants whose names will be drawn throughout the weekend of the fair.
